Strawberry Tuxedos (Chocolate Covered Strawberries)

Strawberry Tuxedos

Here is an elegant dessert for Valentine's Day with the luscious combination of fruit and chocolate. Not only are Strawberry Tuxedos a splendid touch of delicious romance to your Valentines, but they are easy to make too!

Strawberry Tuxedos Recipe (Chocolate Covered Strawberries)

Strawberries and Chocolate
You will need:
  • 1 large basket, ripe strawberries, washed and patted dry
  • 1-2 oz white chocolate for coating
  • 2-3 oz dark chocolate for coating
Heat a small saucepan about 1/2 full of water on the stove until it boils, and then reduce heat to a simmer. Chop the white and dark chocolate separately into small pieces with a French knife and place the chopped chocolate in separate small metal mixing bowls. First heat the chocolate you want for the shirt color, either the white or dark chocolate, over the steaming water, you may wish to vent a little of the steam with a spoon or spatula, heat the chocolate until it is completely melted.

Next, dip the widest side of the strawberry in the melted chocolate, only the front side needs to be dipped. Place the dipped strawberries on a plate with wax paper or non-stick food spray on it. Repeat until all the strawberries are coated in chocolate and then place the plate in the refrigerator for about 2-5 minutes to harden the chocolate.

While the strawberries are chilling heat the other chocolate over the steaming water until completely melted. Remove strawberries from the refrigerator and begin to dip each side of the strawberry to form a "jacket" with the white chocolate showing in a "V" pattern on the front of the strawberry.
Once all strawberries are dipped, take a toothpick or tip of a paring knife and place 3 dots of chocolate up the center of the other chocolate to make 3 "buttons". Next, above the 3 dots, with the toothpick or paring knife, make a chocolate bow tie above the buttons, basically two rough triangles out from a center point.
